Aseptic suite facility for Ulster Hospital

As a new critical care block was not to be constructed at the Ulster Hospital Gilbert Ash for another five years, there was an urgent need to improve existing facilities at the hospital.
A new aseptic suite facility was required at the rear of the main hospital, incorporating a reception area, store and toilets. The clinical rooms needed to include an inner support room and an outer support room connected with pass-through hatches, gown rooms and the main aseptic room.
The project required a quick turnaround from design to completion, with minimum disruption to the hospital’s work.
Extraspace Solutions was awarded the contract for the new facility by the main contractor responsible for new building works at the hospital.
Our team was responsible for the design and build, and all finishes including Polyclad welding wall and ceiling cladding, Powershield steel door sets (clinical), pass-through hatches, and all fitted furniture including stainless steel extraction benches.
The internal ceiling height was 2.7m, with a further 400mm void to allow all mechanical ventilation and ducting to the air handling unit on the building’s roof.
The team designed and put into place a load-bearing framework for the AHU. Extraspace Solutions was also responsible for the full M&E fit out, testing and commissioning of the unit as well as the clinical cleaning.
The new building is 150m2 in size. The construction specification included four steel framed modules located in an L shape on site.
The modular building was supplied and erected on site, with an appointed main contractor looking after ground work and foundations. We installed the building within 14 weeks from date of order. The units were transported, offloaded and sited on one day, causing minimum disruption to ongoing hospital operations.
