Ulster Hospital endoscopy clinic

Steel framed building for endoscopy clinic

Sector: Health
Project: New Endoscopy Reprocessing Suite, Ulster Hospital
Client: South East Trust, Northern Ireland
Contract value: £153,000

Our brief

The Ulster Hospital Gilbert Ash had an urgent need to upgrade and improve the current procedures within the endoscopy clinic to incorporate new methods of reprocessing equipment.

The existing clinic was located on the hospital’s first floor and towards the back of the site. There was no room internally for the new facility to be located, so a modular building option was considered.

This contract for design and build was awarded to Extraspace Solutions by the main contractor responsible for new building works at the hospital.

Our solution

Extraspace Solutions designed a 10m x 4m steel framed unit located on a specially designed steel supporting framework – this enabled the building to be located at first-floor level. The building was lifted over an existing permanent building with a 200T crane and into a 5m-wide area outside the existing clinic.

The new facility creates a flow of equipment from dirty through to clean and into reuse again.

The building was finished with whiterock wall cladding, whiterock suspended ceiling, slip resistant floor covering, laminated door sets and full M&E installation which included linking up all new services into the existing hospital.

The internal ceiling height was 2.7m, with a further 400mm void for all mechanical ventilation which was connected back to an air handling unit located on the building’s roof.

The Extraspace team designed a load-bearing steel framework for the unit and also fitted guard rails and access ladders. We manufactured and installed the building within 10 working weeks from date of order.
